Highrise

VR training for highrise emergency response

For emergency teams, highrise fires present a labyrinth of risks and critical decision points. The highrise VR environment is meticulously designed to enhance skills in tackling fires in towering structures. Trainees start in an 11th-floor stairwell, confronting the unique challenges of vertical firefighting to efficiently control and extinguish fires.

Bedroom fire scenario for highrise VR firefighter training

Participants face a bedroom fire on the 13th floor, testing their ability to quickly assess risks and execute firefighting techniques under the threat of a potential flashover. The scenario emphasises dynamic risk assessment, proper hose management, and the selection and application of extinguishing agents. Trainees also practice communication protocols, resource estimation, and understanding the behaviour of fire and smoke in highrise settings.

Living room fire scenario

This VR firefighter training scenario introduces the complexity of potential civilian presence. Firefighters ascend to tackle a living room fire, with their actions having direct implications on occupant safety. The focus is on decision-making, hose handling, and water application, while also stressing the importance of utility isolation and knowledge of highrise structures.

Trainees confront a ventilation-controlled living room fire with the imperative to manage the environment carefully to prevent a flashover. Effective entry techniques, dynamic risk assessment, and understanding the principles of ventilation in fire behaviour are critical learning outcomes, ensuring trainee readiness for real-life scenarios.
