Training for a better tomorrow

About FLAIM

FLAIM creates immersive eXtended-Reality (XR) training systems to help first responders, defence teams, and high-risk industry workers prepare more effectively and confidently for real-world emergencies and life-threatening situations.

Our vision A world where being unprepared is never the reason lives are lost.

Our purpose is to ensure that the gap between training and real-world readiness is never the reason an incident becomes a tragedy - by building systems that replicate the conditions, pressure, and unpredictability of real emergencies so that the responses they demand become instinctive.

We serve those who serve by innovating and customising our training systems to address customers' unique risks.

Our main focus areas include fire and emergency response, defence, resources, energy oil and gas, transportation, and workplace safety.

Our promise to deliver better training for a better tomorrow.

Our story

FOUNDATIONAL BELIEF The cost of being unprepared is measured in lives. FLAIM designs, develops, and deploys immersive technology training systems that use simulation to replicate the conditions of real incidents - so firefighters, emergency responders, defence personnel, and high-risk industrial workforces are ready when it matters.

ORIGIN Commissioned by the Royal Australian Navy and developed by robotics engineers at Deakin University, FLAIM was built to solve a practical problem - how do you prepare people for dangerous, unpredictable emergencies without exposing them to those conditions to do it? The answer was an immersive technology training system that combined industry-standard firefighting equipment with realistic visual, audio, and environmental conditions - creating a training experience that could be repeated safely, at scale, and without the constraints of live fire.

EVOLUTION FLAIM began with firefighter training and has since expanded into defence, emergency services, and high-risk industry - wherever the gap between training and real-world readiness carries serious consequences. We identify real training gaps and build practical technology solutions to close them. We work closely with customers and partners to understand their specific training environments and the risks their people need to be prepared for.

THE LEARNING PRINCIPLE Our story is built on one core belief - and supported by how the brain learns under pressure. When simulation is realistic enough to produce genuine physiological responses - stress, time pressure, physical conditions - memory encoding is deeper and recall under real-world pressure is faster. Failing safely in simulation does not diminish the learning. It removes the barrier to repeating it.  People who practise more frequently in realistic conditions are measurably better prepared when real incidents occur.

WHAT WE BUILD Every FLAIM system is built around a single question: will this training produce a better response when a real incident occurs? That means scenarios designed to replicate the unpredictability of real emergencies, not just their appearance. It means learning design that builds decision-making under pressure, not just procedural familiarity. And it means performance analytics that give trainers and organisations measurable evidence of readiness - not just completion records.

HOW WE WORK FLAIM systems are designed to complement existing training programs - adding the frequency, realism, and structured learning that live exercises alone cannot consistently provide. We measure our success by one standard: whether our customers' people are better prepared when real incidents occur.
