Introduction
EvacServices, a leading Australian training consultancy, has redefined fire safety training for its customers. With the introduction of immersive training, EvacServices now offers a comprehensive fire safety training program for fire wardens, chief wardens, and general occupants.
The challenge
EvacServices experienced the drawbacks of live fire training and digital simulators. Live-burn exercises came with high costs and logistical barriers, including weather-dependent training. Their digital simulators were cumbersome and unpractical for many workplaces.
With customers wanting hands-on, realistic training, EvacServices needed an effective, scalable training solution that delivers real-world applicable skills to its customers.
We needed a solution that allowed us to deliver realistic, high-impact fire safety training that was safe, repeatable, and scalable, whilst reducing our reliance on live burns and physical props. Our goal was to ensure trainees developed practical, decision-making skills under pressure without compromising safety.
We were drawn to Workplace Safety – Fire because it offered an immersive,
hands-on training environment that simulates high-risk fire scenarios without
exposing Wardens to actual danger. Its data tracking, realism,
and portability made it the ideal solution to modernise our curriculum. It also
aligned with our goals of being more sustainable and cost-effective.
Th solution
In 2021, EvacServices incorporated immersive fire extinguisher training into its fire safety training programs with the acquisition of Workplace Safety – Fire. With eight systems operating in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and beyond, this cutting-edge technology has helped EvacServices’ deliver an end-to-end fire safety training program to its customers across Australia.
We integrate FLAIM into our core fire safety training programs, including both initial onboarding and ongoing competency refreshers. It is used in scenario-based learning, individual assessment, and group exercises, allowing Wardens to gain muscle memory and critical decision-making skills in controlled environments. We train ‘inside the box’ to learn and reduce the potential of making mistakes ‘outside the box’ on live operations and responses. The model of FLAIM allows for hands on first attack firefighting responses without the requirements of – environmental damage – PPE, heat, or significant risk through the exposure of real flame.
The results
The adoption of Workplace Safety - Fire has driven impressive outcomes for EvacServices:
- Over 100 hours of immersive training delivered so far this year – with an additional 150 sessions planned this year alone.
- 3-10 staff are trained at a time
- Significant cost savings on fuel, PPE wear, and facility use.
- Faster, more efficient training cycles and higher trainee engagement.
- Better environmental outcomes by eliminating emissions and water usage.
- Enhanced team confidence and capability, with trainees eager to compete for the “100% win” in their practical assessment.
To date, we have delivered over 100 hours of immersive fire safety training using Workplace Safety – Fire, far surpassing what was previously achievable in the same timeframe using traditional methods. We have a further 150 sessions planned until the end of the year, with the number growing as the exposure to the system increases.
What this means for their customers:
- More confident and capable fire wardens who can respond under pressure
- Environmental savings to achieve sustainability targets
- A compliant workforce
“The biggest value is creating high-risk scenarios safely and affordably. FLAIM has laid the foundation for smarter, safer, and more accessible training – and we’re excited to be leading that charge.”
The Future
EvacServices is committed to staying at the forefront of immersive fire safety training. Plans are in motion to expand the curriculum with even more advanced scenarios and multi-user collaboration, continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible in a safe, controlled, and repeatable environment.
“We have enhanced the overall training experience
by integrating FLAIM into a broader learning framework, complimenting FLAIM to
make the firefighting experience more valuable – this allows Wardens to build
on foundational skills with realistic, immersive scenarios. The
layered approach ensures a deeper understanding of fire behaviour and response
tactics, making the training experience more comprehensive and impactful.”
