Safety & Space Requirements

The safe use of the FLAIM Trainer is paramount. The following safety guidelines should be followed to ensure that users and support staff are protected at all times.

Users must operate the Headset under the directives determined in the following HTC VIVE guides:

Safety Advice

  • FLAIM Trainer is only to be used to train those who respond to fire safety.
  • FLAIM Trainer must not be used for operational or actual firefighting or live fire training.
  • Do not use in wet conditions or expose to direct water.
  • Do not use in conjunction with firefighting liquids or agent streams including gas, carbonaceous or other fuels.
  • FLAIM Trainer should only be used inside and away from direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can damage the VR headset displays and will void the system warranty.
  • FLAIM Trainer has batteries within the headset, the controllers and the SBCA which must be charged and maintained for optimal use. It is critical that the headset and controllers are checked for damage before and after use and before and after charging.

Important: The workspace should be a minimum of 6m x 6m (20ft x 20ft) of open clear floor space.

It’s important to make sure you have adequate working space before beginning as some scenarios require the user to walk closer to the fire to extinguish.

The space should be clear of furniture or items the user may bump into.
