Key quotes from Chief Phillip Hartley
It’s not a game for us … I mean, we’re just putting it through the paces … they, they like it … they enjoy it … my classes have become popular.
Let’s just take the fire extinguisher, for example, to get somebody certified and trained on how to use a fire extinguisher. One, you got to have a fire. Two, you got to have a working fire extinguisher, you know, that adds up over time. And then you got to provide a controlled environment and safe and once you teach the students how to use the fire extinguisher, I mean with, to me, the FLAIM Extinguisher is just a no brainer to use in a classroom setting.
With the FLAIM Trainer, I could put them in a turnout gear, headset, heat vest, pack on, put the nozzle in their hand and say, okay, this is almost what it’s like – heat, the resistance from a nozzle, the communication in your ear. And they get a sense of what it’s gonna be like. And then maybe I wanna do this as a career or do something else.
They (the school) see it as a recruit recruiting tool. And right now we’re trying to increase diversity in our city … I honestly believe that in public safety, your community needs to be a reflection. The workers need to be a fraction of the community and we’re trying to increase diversity and get, especially students here, at that lower socioeconomic.
If you are not getting on board and helping promote VR training, whether it be public safety, military, it doesn’t matter, you are going to be left behind because I got news for you. The future is going to be VR.
