NewsNovember 12th, 2023

From 4-5 November, Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) conducted Basic Operation Firefighter Training (BOF) using the latest FLAIM Trainer T3 at Cherry Valley, Illinois. The BOF was conducted at three locations, including Antioch and Swansea.

During the event, over 200 firefighters from 170 different jurisdictions utilised the immersive learning solution for Basic Operation Firefighter Training. This included both professional firefighters and volunteers with full time careers.

The Basic Operation Firefighter (BOF) program is funded through the Illinois State Fire Marshall that delivers blended learning firefighting training to the largest segment of firefighters and volunteers in the country. The initiative allows firefighters to obtain a high level capacity of training within a blended format, equipping personnel with skills needed to combat real-life fires.

“Here at the Illinois Fire Service we embrace technological advancement that allows us to deliver the very best training for our students” said Timothy Walsh, Director of Corporate Relations, Development and Community Engagement at the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute. “Virtual reality is cutting edge and we are proud to showcase FLAIM in our instructional delivery. It allows us to provide instructor guided repetition with immediate feedback for all involved.”

FLAIM is committed to delivering safer, smarter and deeper learning solutions to better equip front line personnel for the firefighter operation ahead. To support the IFSI’s initiative FLAIM provided two kits of its latest Trainer T3 systems to the IFSI for their Cadet Academy and Basic Operations Firefighter remote training courses to demonstrate immersive learning as an effective solution to remote training sessions.

“It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to work alongside organisations like Illinois Fire Service Institute who are committed to delivering the best training outcomes for students” said Simon Miller, CEO at FLAIM Systems. “Firefighter training organizations require innovative solutions to deliver safe and effective remote training to firefighters across the country. IFSI is taking a proactive approach in implementing technology that equips students with the skills needed to combat real-life fires safely.”
